The Winter’s Tale at Royal Opera House



Catch a compelling ballet adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale 
at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden from February 13 to March 31.
The Winter’s Tale is a three act ballet production that was first presented at 
Royal Opera House in April 2014. It was co-produced by the Royal Ballet and 
the National Ballet of Canada. It lasts for two hours and 50 minutes.
Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet Christopher Wheeldon choreographed the 
dance drama, while British composer Joby Talbot was commissioned to create 
the narrative stores and scenery and costume designs were done by Bob Crowley. 
Lighting designer Natasha Katz and stage effect experts Daniel Brodie and Basil 
Twist where also behind its production.   
The Winter’s Tale is a story about love, loss and redemption. Originally written 
towards the end of Shakespeare’s theatrical career, it tells the love story of 
Perdita and Prince Florizel. It also follows the lives of Leontes, a jealous king who 
believed his wife had an affair with his childhood friend, and Polixenes, the King 
of Bohemia.
